2008 Darling Park Shiraz
Hand picked fruit from the Robinson vineyard at the warmer, northern end of the Peninsula in March, wild fermented with some Viognier (maybe 2%) and a few stalks for texture (maybe 10% of the stalks); on skins 21 days with a cold soak to start, pressed to 25% new French barrels and bottled in February 2009. 2008 was a gorgeous, easy vintage with plenty of warmth in summer and autumn to ripen the Shiraz thoroughly; we have a wine that's certainly elegantly cool-climate with a muted peppery spice that marries well with food. Should cellar well for 10 years although it's drinking very well now.
